OUR REASON FOR BEING

We’re here to make sewing un-scary.

Snippets started from a simple, stubborn belief: that making something with your own hands shouldn’t be reserved for people who already know how. It should be open to anyone willing to spend a cozy afternoon trying — including people who are sure they’d be hopeless at it. Especially them.

THE BELIEF

Anyone can make something with their hands.

We’ve heard “I’m just not crafty” more times than we can count — usually from people who’ve simply never been handed the right first project. Not being “crafty” isn’t a fixed fact about you. It’s almost always a sign that the projects you’ve tried were too big, too vague, or too quick to let you fail.

So we built the opposite of that. We took the guesswork out, did the precise parts in advance, and left you with the part that’s genuinely satisfying and hard to get wrong. What’s left is enough to make something real — and to discover that your hands are far more capable than you’ve been told.

WHY BAGS

We started with bags on purpose.

A bag is the most forgiving first thing you can sew, and we chose it deliberately.

  • There’s no fit to get wrong.

Clothes have to fit a body, and a body is a moving target. A bag fits whatever you put in it. Nobody has ever pulled on a tote and found it too tight in the shoulders.

  • It’s honestly useful.

You’ll carry it. A bag earns a place in your everyday life in a way a decorative sampler never does — which means you get a small, daily reminder that you made something.

  • The seams are part of the charm.

Our bags wear their stitches on the outside, on purpose. There’s nothing to hide, so there’s nothing to obsess over hiding. The handmade look is the look.

WHY BY HAND

No machine. That’s the good news.

A sewing machine is the single most intimidating object in this whole hobby — the tension dials, the bobbins, the foot pedal that lurches the second you touch it. For a beginner, it’s a wall, not a doorway. So we got rid of it.

Sewing by hand is slower, and we think that’s a feature. It’s quiet. You can do it on the couch. You can stop mid-stitch to answer the door and pick up exactly where you left off. It’s a screen-break you can actually hold, and it leaves you with something to show for the time — not a cleared notification.

And by hand, every stitch is yours. The little marks of a thing being made by a person are the whole point. We’d rather you have a bag that looks handmade than one that looks machined.

HOW WE THINK

Small steps, all the way down.

The name is the philosophy. A snippet is a small, manageable piece — and we believe almost anything worth doing is best approached as a series of them. You don’t learn to make things by reading about it or by taking on something huge and stalling out. You learn by finishing one small thing, then a slightly bigger one, then the next.

That’s how every Snippets kit is built, and it’s how the whole line is planned: start with the most foolproof project we can design, and let each kit nudge you a little further than the last — never so far that you feel out of your depth. Confidence isn’t a personality trait you’re born with. It’s a stack of small, finished things.

A NOTE FROM US

Made by people who remember being beginners.

We’re a small team that got tired of watching people talk themselves out of trying. We remember the first wobbly, lopsided thing we ever made — and how much it mattered anyway. That feeling, of finishing something you weren’t sure you could, is the entire reason Snippets exists.

We’re still pre-launch, putting the same care into the kits that we’re asking you to put into your first bag. If that sounds like your kind of thing, come along for the ride.
